Our active club has many members some with starring roles and others that seem to slip under the radar.
Everyone works exceptionally hard, carrying out their role often whilst holding down a full time job.

I’m Paula and I am a primary school teacher in Swanage. I began swimming at the age of 7 and joined a club very similar to Wareham as soon as I could swim 25m. In my older teenage years, I swam for the City of Cardiff Club and represented my club at County and National Level. I have represented Wales and was the age group record holder for 100 Backstroke. When I came for a job interview at Bovington, the first place I visited was the Purbeck Sports Centre so I could find a club. Over 30 years later I am still a member of Wareham Swimming Club where I continue to enjoy training with the Masters group twice a week. My son and husband are also both members of the club. I am keen to see young swimmers reach their potential and see swimming as a life long activity. I have been the Welfare Officer for 3 x years, the swimmers are used to seeing me as I sometimes team manage and also time keep at our club competitions.

I have been involved with the swimming club since 2015 when my children joined. I now coordinate the club shop which sells club kit and swimming essentials.

We joined the Club in 2015 and both my children have loved being part of the Club. I joined the committee as Membership officer in 2022 and am keen to help the club progress and support our swimmers. Outside of swimming I enjoy walking, reading and, when they are not swimming, I can often be found on a riverbank supporting my children rowing.

I work for a youth development charity and see daily how important it is for young people to have a passion and purpose in their lives outside of school, especially something active. I believe that our swimming club provides this focus for our swimmers and am very thankful that we have this club in our community.

Samuel joined the committee in late 2023 as an independent representative and parent of a club swimmer. His profession is in strategic consulting and he is interested in supporting the decision making and sustainable development of the club.
