WAREHAM & DISTRICT SWIMMING CLUB

About W&DSC

 

The Wareham & District Swimming Club was originally formed as an all male club, however in 1957 the club was reformed and females were allowed to become members.

The club is based at the Purbeck Sports Centre in Wareham.

​

The club exists to promote and improve swimming from ages 6 through to masters/adults. Not everyone likes to compete and we will support you in whichever direction you wish your swimming to take. 

​

We follow the STA International learn to swim programme (ILSP). We are able to take swimmers from Angelfish through to Platinum swimmer. We teach a variety of skills which include the 4 main strokes of swimming, diving, personal survival, water rescue and safety, synchro and water polo.

​

From Age 14+ they can be invited on to poolside, help Teachers, work towards the Young Volunteer Award and the club may support them in taking any Teaching Qualifications. This also applies to any parents/adults interested. 

 

The competitive extension of the club is to provide competitive coaching for swimmers when they are ready as they progress from pre-development to squad level. If you are interested in competition, there are many options for you within our locality and also the opportunity to travel to competitions throughout the county and sometimes further afield.

We also hold a Colour Gala, Splash Nights and Club Championships.

We also attend open meets and competitions outside of the club. 

​

There are many different awards including badges (for teaching), ribbons, medals and trophies. Age Group cups are all presented at our Annual Presentation Evening in January/February.

Annual General Meeting

The Swimming Club year runs from 1st April to 31st March and we hold our Annual General Meeting in the month of September/October. This is when the Committee is elected and any comments and questions from parents and swimmers are welcome.

Helpers Welcome

If you are a mum or dad or any member of the swimmer’s family and feel you would like to take a more active part in the swimming club, we are always looking for extra helpers, especially on the Poolside on Gala nights. It’s good fun. Please let us know, and I am sure you will not regret it.

Many of our Teachers started being the ones watching on until they began to help and realised it’s much more enjoyable on the Poolside. As you all know in any job the administration seems to get more and more, this is the same for the club.
