Swim Wales Winter Championships! DAY 2

DAY 2:

Hester led out again with her morning heat swim of the 50m Bk : 32.21, a huge PB and Club Record! 13th / 29

Finlay lined up for 100m Free - smashing another PB and Club Record of 57.34, narrowly missing Finals in 12th.

Harley was keen to rectify mistakes from the Swim Bournemouth Open Meet in his 50m Fly. Despite a somewhat sluggish start! He shattered his PB and Club Record by 1.3secs to go 31.23 and book his ticket into the Finals in 3rd place / 32!

Matt watched on as Harley demolished his Heat... Not to be beaten by the young upstart, he nailed down his own massive PB and Club Record to go 29.98, breaking 30 for the first time and finishing 19th / 53 in the 13/14yrs age group!

Gabby raced the 50m Bk well, a slightly slow start but improved feel for the water got her another slice off her PB with a 33.67 - 25th / 57.

The lads returned for the 50m Bk:

Matt and Harley facing off in the same heat!

Harley had the lead for 40m of the race but Matt closed fast and held his form to take the win and a new PB in 32.21, the exact same time as Hester, I feel a rivalry coming on! 22nd / 42 for Matt. Harley just lost his way a little, slowing his rate over the last 10m, but still hitting a 33.25, PB and yet another Finals slot - 6th / 30!

Fin smashed the 30 second barrier as he scythed through the water in 29.86, another big PB and club record! Into the Final in 6th / 42!

FINALS:

Harley raced first, his favourite event the 50m Fly...

We practiced his reactions in the warm-up and he knew that if he was going to stand a chance of getting on the podium he'd have to be sharper.

Nerves were high among the team, not least of all for Mum - Danielle Taylor.

He aced the start, getting off the blocks much quicker. After a rapid first 25m, he was joint 1st. The turn just a split second slower than his rival in Lane 4. Harley was gaining on him in the last 10m though, surging for the finish - incredibly close - It was Silver! An awesome result:

30.67 - a whole 0.6 faster than his heats (most of that was in the start)

I can't overstate how incredible a swim this was, to Final at a National Championships is incredibly difficult let alone medal.

His time puts him 11th in the UK - only 0.7 away from 1st.

It was a fast turn-around. Harley up again for the 50m Bk!

He stepped up once again, delivering on the big stage - 33.11 yet another PB and Club Record! 7th in the Final.

Finlay was loving the Backstroke and had his 2nd Final of the weekend so far.

He did not disappoint, crushing his heat time to go 29.59 with improved aggression into the turn! Another PB and Club Record -taking 5th in the Final!!

Only 1 day to go. The team were buzzing, with everyone smashing PB's or SB's. Bring on Day 3!
