Swim Wales Winter Championships! DAY 1

Apologies for the delayed report but here's the wrap up of the Swim Wales Winter Championships!

DAY 1:

Hester initiated proceedings with a strong morning swim of 29.91 in the 50m Fly, sub 30 for the first time and lowering her own Club Record! - earning her a spot in the Finals going in 8th / 38 in the 15/16 age group!

Holly, Jacy and Gabby were next in the 50m Brst, all in the 13/14 age group.

Jacy - 38.93 a season's best swim, only the 2nd time ever that she's gone a 38! 47th / 56

Holly - 38.16 another season's best swim and only 5 hundredths off her PB, incidentally the fastest Holly has swam since her foot injury. 37th / 56

Gabby - 37.49 yet another season's best, back into the 37's for Gabby on Brst! 27th / 56

The boys came out to play next for some 50m Free.

Harley opened up with a crazy PB, cutting 1.5sec off his entry time and taking a new Club Record in 29.74 and finish joint 8th / 39 (11/12yrs), meaning he would have to swim off for the last place in the Final!!

Fin was looking strong, going a 26.22 PB and new Club Record, just missing out on the Final in 11th / 41 (13/14yrs)

More swimming for the 2 boys in the 100m Bk next:

Harley went a 1:16.92, a way off his best, feeling the effects of the illness he's been fighting for the majority of the week.

Fin came out fighting in the 100m Bk, swimming a well structured race with improved direction - 1:05.18 a 0.8sec PB and Club Record, earning him a spot in the evening Finals going in 8th!

Gabby finished off the heat swims with a forceful 50m Fly, hauling herself down the pool but misjudging her finish. Still a PB of 31.73, definitely faster times to come!

Harley went head to head with Jimmy Mcguire of Sunderand for the last spot into the final! Showing a thunderous leg kick he managed to lower his time once again to 29.58! Reaction time let him down though as Jimmy just edged the finish, leaving Harley with a 9th place finish / 39. Still a fantastic effort!

FINALS:

Fin went first, saluting the crowd as he was announced onto poolside.

He stepped up, dealing with the pressure well in his first National Final. 1:04.79, another 0.4 off his Heat time and Club Record, gaining 7th place! Great swim!

Hester walked out for her Final, the whole Wareham team staying behind to support her.

She did not let them down! A powerful display of Butterfly propelled her to a 29.83, yet another PB and Club Record! Stepping up from 8th to 5th in the Final!!

A brilliant Day 1. Morale was high going into Day 2!!
