    About

    Choice of 2 x 1 Hour sessions from those offered. The starting point for competitive swimming, not forced to compete, but encouraged to compete, through club champs, novice league, colour galas, Time trials. Generally swimmers in the pre-development squad are aged between 8 and 11.

    Pre Requisites: – 25m FC, BK, BR (legal), Basic Fly.

    The focus will be learning the competitive strokes, starts, and turns. With opportunities to practice competing within the club, and then when they are ready to compete against other teams. Should be being trained towards 25s, 50s, 200s, as well as building stamina and consistency within starts and turns.

      Head Coach

      Jeff is an experienced coach who works with various clubs and schools within Dorset. Swimmers previously coached by Jeff have achieved success at regional and national championships. Jeff is currently working towards obtaining the ASA Level 3 coach qualification. Jeff joined the club in the role of head coach in December 2014.

    About

    Adult training takes place on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. This training is suitable for ex-club swimmers, triathletes and other swimmers generally capable of swimming 2000m plus in a session. There are opportunities for adults, if fast enough, to swim for the club in the open category at several events during the year.

    Squad Training

    About

    Squad training is for the fastest swimmers in the club, usually 14 to 18 year olds who train at least 4 times a week. This is the Top Squad, all swimmers will be actively competing, and attending sessions as well as land training Saturdays 9.15 – 10.00. Up to 6 hours a week are available. Note, top up training sessions with Poole Swimming Club are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays – speak to Jeff for further details.

    Pre – Requisites:-

    • County Consideration Times
    • Commitment to 4 sessions a week (except illness or pre-arranged with coach)
    • 50m-800/1500m FC, 50m-200m BK, BR, FLY, IM, 400IM times on ranx.
    • Competitive Start award
    • Commitment to Team events
    • Commitment to competing (this is a competitive squad).
    • All strokes, turns, starts, underwater phases legal and ability to streamline 10m consistent, off wall at start, consistently 5m at turns.
    • Swanage is NOT a suitable session. (17m pool)

    Swim skills to improve swimming and achieve badges. Swimmers work towards achieving the STA badge awards including Angelfish and Shark series, bronze, silver and gold water skills and swimmer. The ultimate badge is the Platinum badge which covers water safety, personal survival, competitive timed swims, diving, synchro & water polo.

    Swimfit is available on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings.

    Note: There is no reduction for school holidays, even though there may be less sessions available. Fees are calculated including this for the year ,and divided equally into 12 calendar months to enable a standing order to be setup for a fixed amount.

    This is the next Step into competing after pre-development squad, Swimmers in Development should be looking to enter open meets/counties and be included in club teams. Whilst this is still not essential it should be encouraged.

    Age range:- 9-12 years old.

    Pre – Requisites:-

    200m FC plus 200m of their choice, complete legally within either club comp, open meet, or in training time trials if they don’t want to compete. 25m Strong Correct and Legal butterfly, Attempt at 50m Fly. ALL starts and Turns CORRECT and LEGAL, including attempt at streamlining off every wall, Fly kick off walls front and back. Understanding and attempt at a wind up relay take over (doesn’t need to be perfect). Be able to streamline under water at least 5m. Be able to swim underwater for 10m. Competitive start award – Deep end diving complete. Sessions per week 2-4 (depending on age, availability and timings). Ideally development swim alongside Pre squad/Squad but only have 1 hour instead of 2 for example. Training towards 25s, 50-1500m Fc, 200/400IMs, 50-200m BK, BR, FLY.

    By this point, Swimmers should be confident enough to compete, and aiming for County times.

    Age range:- 11-14 years

    Sessions per week 5 depending on age, availability and timings eg: 3 x 1.5 hours, 1 x 1 hour + Land Training. Note, top up training sessions with Poole Swimming Club are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays – speak to Jeff for further details. Swanage is not a suitable session (17m pool).

    Pre – Requisites:-

    • 200m time on Ranx Legal in FC, BK, BR, IM (fly is a bonus)
    • 400m FC time on Ranx
    • All starts turns and finishes correct and legal including Relay take over (preferably Wind up, unless significantly slower).
    • Consistent 5m off walls at turns.
    • Swim 20m underwater
    • Be Actively competing in open meets and galas.
    • Commitment to 3 sessions a week (except illness or pre-arranged with coach)
